First 5 LA’s Summer Safety Campaign

First 5 LA serves California’s largest and most diverse county, working to fund programs that ensure that the children of Los Angeles County – from prenatal through age five – are healthy, safe and ready to learn.

Hershey|Cause helped First 5 LA develop and launch a media campaign and Summer Safety Funfest event highlighting the importance of parental supervision to prevent accidents and fatal injuries, particularly instances of children being left alone in cars, which tend to spike during the summer.

We initiated a partnership with Exposition Park Intergenerational Community Center – the largest community center in California – which hosted the event, and secured refreshment sponsorship from SUBWAY and Whole Foods. In addition to targeted radio advertising, our messages also reached parents at no cost through public service announcements and news coverage on 102.7 KIIS FM, Univision’s KMEX 34, LA Opinión, the L.A. Watts Times and other media outlets. We also provided event planning consultation and signage design.

Hershey|Cause’s efforts garnered a ten-fold increase on First 5 LA’s investment in the campaign. Due to the success of the summer safety initiative, First 5 LA plans to leverage these messages for years to come through an annual campaign.
